Overview

This series of monthly lectures is devoted to topics in clinical geriatrics designed to teach important principles in the management of older adults. A new lecture will be available the 1st working day of each month, July - December 2019.

This series is sponsored and hosted by the Iowa Geriatric Education Center. Please visit their website for more information and to register for the course.

Objectives
  1. Describe the role deprescribing plays in polypharmacy.
  2. Describe how medication dosing adjustments impact kidney function.
  3. Discuss the risks and benefits of Deprescribing high-risk medications.
  4. Identify alternative treatments to opioids and anti-anxiety medications.
  5. Identify updates to the Beers Criteria.
  6. Discuss approaches for and factors influencing gradual dose reductions or discontinuation of antipsychotic medications in older adults, including those with neurocognitive disorders and mental health conditions.
