Overview
The purpose of this class is to provide information for nurses on hematological conditions and hematological malignancies.  This includes etiology, diagnosis, treatment, symptom management, nursing care and expected outcomes.

Objectives
  1. Discuss the current nursing and medical management of hemophilia.
  2. Discuss the current nursing and medical management of acute and chronic leukemia.
  3. Discuss the current nursing and medical management of multiple myeloma.
  4. Describe recent advances in the treatment of lymphoma and Hodgkin’s disease.
  5. Identify risk factors and therapeutic interventions for Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP) and Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP).
  6. Discuss current nursing and medical management of sickle cell disease.
  7. Review principles of blood and marrow transplant care.

Registration
Pre-registration is required three weeks prior to each class.  

Accreditation
6.8 contact hours will be granted by UIHC Department of Nursing (IBN Approved Provider #34).  Participants must attend each session in its entirety to receive full credit.
