Designed for primary care providers, pharmacists, nurses, clinical microbiologists, and other providers, this virtual conference will provide an update on the prevention and treatment of various infectious diseases.

Target Audience

Objectives
  1. Identify and compare the various SARS-CoV-2 vaccines, including efficacy, adverse effects, and logistics associated with their distribution and uptake
  2. Identify the various tick-borne diseases endemic in Iowa and the surrounding states and recognize their presenting and distinguishing features
  3. Discuss the common infections seen in elderly patients and describe the differences in their presentation and treatment
  4. Explain the differences in caring for people with COVID-19 during pregnancy
  5. Describe the clinical trials recommending shorter courses of antibiotic therapy and recognize the patient populations to which these recommendations apply
  6. Discuss the changing face of outpatient HIV care and identify the common comorbidities and the nuances of providing primary care for this patient population
  7. Describe the treatment options for COVID-19 and discuss their efficacy data
  8. Define the new guidelines for treatment of community acquired pneumonia and compare to current practice
  9. Interpret the data for prevention of transmission of SARS-CoV-2 both as it relates to public health and personal health
  10. Discuss prevention and management of diabetic foot infections, including how to incorporate telehealth into the management algorithm.
  11. Discuss the rising rates of STDs, analyze the factors leading to this rise, and review diagnosis and treatment guidelines
  12. Define fever or unknown origin and describe an appropriate initial outpatient workup for these patients

Registration Fee:  $50

There is a cancellation fee of $25.  No refunds for no shows or cancellations made after April 23, 2021.

Accreditation

The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Physician:  The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.5 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.   

Family Physician:  The AAFP has reviewed 22nd Annual Update in Infectious Diseases and deemed it acceptable for up to 6.50 Online Only, Live AAFP Prescribed credit. Term of Approval is from 04/30/2021 to 04/30/2021. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Pharmacist:   CEimpact is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. Following completion of the online course evaluation (accessible at CEImpact.com via a CPE Access Code provided at the course), participants will be able to access their CPE Statement of Credit on CPE Monitor, www.MyCPEMonitor.net.  No partial credit given.  The ACPE Universal Activity Number (UAN) for this knowledge-based CPE activity is # 0107-9999-21-131-L01-P (.65 CEUs | 6 hours).

Nurse: Iowa nurses may use participation in ACCME-accredited education toward their CE requirement for licensure. A certificate of participation will be available after successful completion of the activity.  Please review the Iowa Board of Nursing's website for more information. 

All other participants will receive a certificate of participation for this conference upon completion of the online evaluation.   It is the responsibility of each attendee to determine if the continuing education programs they attend meet the requirements of their professional licensure board.
