What is prognostication in medicine, and how can it improve outcomes of patients with terminal illness? In this episode, Dr. Clancy and his guests, Dr. Tim Thomsen and Dr. Laurie Lyckholm, confront the myths and misconceptions around prognostication, and provide guidance for practitioners to prognosticate objectively, accurately, and in a timely manner. (Recorded 1/4/21)

  2. Discuss the ways that prognostication can contribute to compassionate care of patients and their families.
  3. Discuss some of the myths and misconceptions around prognostication that can hinder timely and accurate prognostication.
  4. Discuss when and from whom to seek prognostication assistance.

Registration
There is no charge to listen to the podcast, but registration is required to obtain a credit certificate, and there is an $11.25 fee (no charge for UI Faculty, Staff and Adjuncts).

Accreditation

The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

CME Credit Designation
The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine designates this enduring material for a maximum of 0.75 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nurses
