2021 AWHONN Advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring

This course is designed for clinicians who have a minimum of 6 months of clinical practice using fetal heart monitoring in their care of intrapartum patients, previously completed a formal basic or foundation fetal heart monitoring course, and current experience using fetal monitoring technology in their intrapartum clinical settings.
This 1-day instructor-led course is designed to prepare clinicians to care for patients with complex fetal heart monitoring tracings.
Course components include: 
• Complex case studies that include recommended interventions 
• Communicating with colleagues 
• Advanced principles of maternal-fetal physiology 
• Optional online post-test is available (required for UIHC staff)

1. Describe physiologic principles of maternal and fetal oxygen transfer as they apply to principles of fetal heart monitoring.
2. Recognize fetal cardiac arrhythmia patterns and describe potential outcomes associated with these patterns.
3. Analyze complex case studies and tracings utilizing standardized terminology.
4. Apply perinatal risk management principles, communication techniques and documentation strategies to complex and challenging patient care scenarios.

Course Fees:  There is no fee for UIHC OB nurses working on the in-patient units.   Registration fee for all other UIHC staff is $177 which includes the AWHONN required course workbook and nursing CE credit; CME is not provided through UIHC.  The course textbook may be borrowed from Jeana Forman or purchased.   Payment of fees required at the time of registration.

Nursing Credits:  A total of eight contact hours of continuing nursing education credit or six hours of continuing medical education credit will be awarded to those who attend and participate in the entire course. AWHONN is accredited as a provider of continuing education in nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. AWHONN also holds a California BRN number: California CNE provider #CEP580. Accredited status does not imply endorsement by AWHONN or ANCC of any commercial products displayed or discussed in conjunction with an activity.
