Overview
This program is designed for primary care physicians, including specialists in family practice, internal medicine, and pediatrics; clinical microbiologists; pharmacists; nurses; and individuals in training for these careers. Lectures and breakout sessions will provide an update on the current, state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases that commonly arise in adults and children in the community, and would routinely be encountered by primary care physicians in the Midwest.

  1. Discuss the current epidemiology and clinical manifestations of COVID-19
  2. Review the long-term effects of COVID-19 infection and discuss how to manage these cases
  3. Compare and contrast options for outpatient COVID-19 treatment
  4. Discuss the effects of COVID-19 on the pediatric population
  5. Discuss the changing epidemiology of STIs in Iowa and how this affects clinical practice
  6. Examine the data regarding treatment of bone and joint infections, specifically septic arthritis
  7. Discuss the updated latent TB treatment guidelines and how to incorporate this into practice
  8. Explain the epidemiology, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, and treatment of infectious diarrhea
  9. Discuss updates in management of HIV for primary care providers
  10. Describe the presentation of Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia and the associated complications
  11. Discuss interesting ID cases with a panel of ID experts
