Overview

The 2nd Annual Substance Use in Pregnancy Regional Conference will aim to increase healthcare provider awareness of, response, intervention and treatment for perinatal substance use disorders. Clinic model and care strategies will be provided to assist with implementation planning at alternate sites. Interdisciplinary teamwork will be discussed regarding the treatment of perinatal substance use disorders, including person-centered care planning and lived experience.

Objectives
  1. Increase awareness of methamphetamine use in pregnancy and it's outcomes and treatment
  2. Discuss the impact of incarceration in the setting of substance use disorders and its impact on all women, especially women of color
  3. Identify methods of self-care when providing healthcare for people with perinatal substance use disorders
  4. Describe programming ideas for starting and expanding focused programs for perinatal substance use disorders
  5. Discuss innovative models of care and research techniques utilized within populations living with perinatal substance use disorders

Registration

This educational conference and associated accredited continuing education credits are provided at no charge courtesy of a grant funded by the Iowa Department of Public Health.  The IMQCC is supported by the Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) of the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Maternal Health Innovation Grant.  


Accreditation

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine and the Iowa Department of Public Health, Iowa Maternal Quality Care Collaborative.  The Carver College of Medicine is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Physician:  The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 5.5 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.   

Nurse:  Effective March 18, 2020, Iowa nurses may use participation in ACCME-accredited education toward their CE requirement for licensure. A certificate of participation will be available after successful completion of the course. (Nurses from other states should confirm with their licensing boards that this activity meets their state's licensing requirements.)

Other Provider:  All other participants will receive a certificate of participation for this conference upon completion of the online evaluation.   It is the responsibility of each attendee to determine if the continuing education programs they attend meet the requirements of their professional licensure board.
