Orthopedic Nursing Conference 2023

This conference will be held virtually through Zoom.

The purpose of this program is to discuss the management and treatment of acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions. Additional content will cover health care programs related to the care of female athletes, pediatric pain, tumor complications, bone health, patient education and healthcare risk management.

Iowa Board of Nursing, Provider #34 (7.33 hours), Non-Nurse Attendance (7.33 hours)

1. Discuss cervical spine injuries and treatment.
2. Identify the care needs of the female athlete.
3. Detail common indications for radiation therapy involving bones. Discuss common bone-related toxicities from radiation therapy, including radiation-induced necrosis and fracture. Describe potential treatment strategies for radiation-induced bone toxicity.
4. Discuss the diagnosis and treatment of periprosthetic fractures.
5. Explain the role of the orthopedic bone health advanced practice provider in preop/postop bone health optimization and fragility fracture liaison.
6. Define what healthcare risk management is and how nurses can be actively involved in risk mitigation.
7. Describe keys to managing skin around orthopedic incisions and musculoskeletal wounds.
8. Describe interventions for pediatric trauma pain.
9. Review prior methods of delivering patient education to orthopedic patients and new methods integrating technology.
10. Discuss noncancerous musculoskeletal tumors.

Registration Fee: $50 (add $10 after 4/3/2023)

Registration closes on 4/10/2023.

Refund: Full (minus $10 cancellation fee) if notification received on or before 4/10/2023.

The Zoom link and any additional conference details will be provided the week prior to the conference.

7.33 contact hours will be granted by UIHC Department of Nursing (IBN Approved Provider #34). Participants must attend the entire program to receive full credit. Questions concerning nursing credits should be directed to the Nursing Clinical Education Center (319) 356-1238.
