Overview

The purpose of this program is to review the steps involved in stabilization of the neonate
after the initial resuscitation, using a mnemonic that allows for easy recall of those steps.

This course is recommended for Level 1 NICU, Mother/Baby and Labor and Delivery nurses.

Iowa Board of Nursing, Provider #34 (5.25 hours), Non-Nurse Attendance (5.25 hours)

Target Audience
Professions - Nurse

Objectives
  1. Identify issues of safety and error reduction.
  2. Describe infants at risk for hypoglycemia and the symptoms they display.
  3. Discuss the process of warming and monitoring severely hypothermic infants.
  4. Review the indications for positive pressure ventilation.
  5. Describe the components of shock.
  6. Identify the major clinical signs of neonatal sepsis.
  7. Discuss the ways in which caregivers can support parents of sick neonates.
