Site Specific Oncology – Hematology Oncology

The purpose of this class is to provide information for nurses on hematologic conditions and malignancies.  This includes etiology, diagnosis, treatment, symptom management, nursing care, and expected outcomes.


Iowa Board of Nursing, Provider #34 (6.50 hours), Non-Nurse Attendance (6.50 hours)

1. Discuss the current nursing and medical management of patients with hemophilia.
2. Discuss the current nursing and medical management of patients with acute and chronic leukemia.
3. Review principles of blood and marrow transplant care.
4. Discuss current nursing and medical management of patients with sickle cell disease.
5. Discuss the current nursing and medical management patients with of multiple myeloma.
6. Describe current nursing and medical management of patients with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and Hodgkin’s disease.
7. Identify risk factors and therapeutic interventions for patients with Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP) and Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP).

Registration Fees:
• UIHC Nursing Staff working on oncology units: No Fee
• UIHC All Other Nurses: $25/class
• Non-UIHC Employees: $96/class (Fee includes workshop materials, breaks, parking and CE credits.)  There is a $20 nonrefundable late fee if registering after the January 19, 2024 deadline. 

Refunds:  Full refund (less the $20 late fee) if notified 3 days prior to the program.  Substitutions are permitted at any time.

6.5 contact hours will be granted by UIHC Department of Nursing (IBN Approved Provider #34).  Participants must attend each session in its entirety to receive full credit.
