Medical Psychiatry Nursing Conference

This conference will be held virtually through Zoom.

The purpose of this conference is to expand existing knowledge of nurses interested in medicine and psychiatry. Topics are appropriate for psychiatric nurses looking to expand their medical knowledge as well as medicine nurses that have an interest in learning more about psychiatry.

Iowa Board of Nursing, Provider #34 (5.10 hours), Non-Nurse Attendance (5.10 hours)

1. Discuss generational differences in the healthcare setting.
2. Discuss the current status of psychedelic medicines in the treatment of psychiatric disorders and findings from clinical research studies which demonstrate their potential.
3. Recognize and evaluate neuropsychiatric symptoms of anti-NMDA encephalitis. Discuss the potential role of electroconvulsive therapy in treating catatonia in setting of this condition. Explain the importance of immunomodulatory therapy for this condition.
4. Compare and contrast FDA and non-FDA approved medications for alcohol use disorder in general population and in those with known liver disease.
5. Discuss neurocognitive disorders and identify ways to reduce behaviors.
