Overview

In gastroenterology and hepatology, the clinical / endoscopic practices have been changing---in some cases quickly---as new data and new health threats emerge. In many cases the clinical practice pattern has not yet shifted to meet the latest recommended standards. The “what, how, and why” need to be addressed in the following realms:

  • Colorectal Cancer Syndromes: Who should the PCP target?: Learners often lack up-to-date knowledge on the latest advancements in blood-based cancer screening tests, which are essential for early detection and improved patient outcomes.

  • MASLD - Obesity Medications/Resmederon: There is a gap in understanding the latest treatment options for Metabolic Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD), particularly the use of obesity medications and the role of Resmederon.

  • Highly Processed Foods: Many learners are not fully equipped to provide evidence-based dietary recommendations tailored to individual patient needs, which is crucial for managing various health conditions.

  • Functional GI Disorders (Gut/Brain): There is a need for enhanced knowledge on the gut-brain axis and its implications for diagnosing and treating functional gastrointestinal disorders.

  • Medication/Treatment Hacks: Learners often seek practical tips and innovative approaches to optimize medication regimens and treatment plans for better patient adherence and outcomes.

  • Anemia Workup: There is a gap in the comprehensive workup and management of anemia, including the latest diagnostic tools and treatment protocols.

  • Red Flags: Identifying and responding to clinical red flags promptly is a critical skill that needs further reinforcement among learners to ensure patient safety.

  • IMO - Intestinal Methanogen Overgrowth (Breath Testing): There is a lack of familiarity with the diagnosis and management of Intestinal Methanogen Overgrowth, including the use of breath testing.

  • Cannabis - Is It Time?: Learners need updated information on the therapeutic use of cannabis, including its benefits, risks, and regulatory considerations.

  • PCABS: There is a need to deepen understanding of the latest developments in PCABS (Potassium Competitive Acid Blocker) and their clinical applications.
