Overview

The purpose of this Refresher Course is to provide practicing family physicians, pharmacists, physican assistants, nurses, and social workers a comprehensive overview of clinical issues relevant to contemporary family medicine. Lectures, case presentations, opportunities for questions and answers — all combine to create a fast-moving and useful educational experience. The course should prove especially useful for those preparing themselves for examination by the American Board of Family Medicine.

The conference will be livestreamed via Zoom.  Must attend live virtual course to receive CME.  Recordings will not be available.

AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (21.00 hours), AAPA Category 1 CME credit (21.00 hours), ACPE Credit (21.00 hours), ANCC Contact Hours (21.00 hours), ASWB General CE Credit (21.00 hours), Non-Physician Attendance (21.00 hours)

Specialties - Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Supportive and Palliative Care

Objectives
  1. Apply evidence based strategies in outpatient family medicine
  2. Apply new studies to practice changing behavior
  3. Apply new guidelines hypertension to a practice
  4. Analyze their role as a member of the health care team using current evidence-based best practices.
  5. Learn to approach diagnostic evaluations in family medicine with appropriate recognition, assessment, and treatment practices with current research.

Registration

One Day: $175.00
Two Days: $300.00
Three Days: $450.00

Select days of attendance during the registration process.  Each day will have a unique Zoom ID that will be emailed to registered participants a few days before the course. 

Cancellation Policy
All but $25.00 of the fee is refundable if inability to attend is made known on or before April 1, 2026.  No refunds for no shows or cancellations made after April 1, 2026


Accreditation

In support of improving patient care, the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.



Physician: The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 21 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. 

Family Physician:  The AAFP has reviewed The 53rd Annual Family Medicine Refresher Course and deemed it acceptable for up to 21.00 Live AAFP Prescribed credit(s). Term of Approval is from 04/07/2026 to 04/09/2026. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Physician Associate: The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine has been authorized by the American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA) to award AAPA Category 1 CME credit for activities planned in accordance with AAPA CME Criteria. This activity is designated for 21 AAPA Category 1 CME credits. PAs should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation.

Pharmacist: The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine designates this knowledge-based activity for a maximum of 21 ACPE contact hours. Carver College of Medicine is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. Social workers completing this course receive 21 general continuing education credit(s).

Other Health Care Provider: A certificate of participation will be available after successful completion of an online evaluation. (It is the responsibility of the licensees to determine if this continuing education activity meets the requirements of their professional licensure board.)
