Overview
The purpose of this one-day conference is to optimize the care of the gastrointestinal patient by providing attendees with advanced knowledge and new innovative care that could impact gastrointestinal nursing staff and patients.

Target Audience

Objectives
  1. Discuss the role of therapeutic endoscopic ultrasound in management of various gastrointestinal conditions.
  2. Review the diagnostic and staging pathway for pancreatic cancer. Describe major treatment options, including surgery, chemotherapy, radiation and palliative care. Recognize nursing assessment findings that should prompt urgent escalation or multidisciplinary coordination.
  3. Explain the purpose and indications of a TIPS device. Analyze available evidence to support the use of TIPS for each indication and understand and weigh the risks associated with TIPS.
  4. Review the principles of effective bowel preparation for colonoscopy, including commonly used regimens, split-dose strategies, and evidence-based best practices to optimize colon cleansing quality.
  5. Describe the advantages of certification and how to obtain certification.
  6. Define the obesity epidemic. Review the available literature on obesity medications and bariatric surgery.
  7. Define achalasia and recognize its clinical presentation.
  8. Discuss ongoing gastrointestinal and hepatology studies, how care is facilitated, and options are offered to patients.
  9. Review definitions, diagnostic approach and management of pediatric feeding disorders in children.
