Overview

The Iowa MOMSS Initiative is a statewide quality improvement initiative with birthing hospitals and prenatal care clinics. In preparation for this initiative, we recognize that OB providers in Iowa have interest in learning more about how to diagnose and manage mood disorders within their practice as well as identifying which patients need to see a mental healthcare specialist. This presentation is the first of a 4-part webinar series geared toward obstetrical providers to improve their confidence in providing care for mood disorders within their obstetrical practice, but all interested learners are welcome.

Objectives
  1. Identify diagnostic criteria for depression and anxiety.
  2. Describe evidence-based treatment algorithms for depression and anxiety.
  3. Explain the importance of conducting a comprehensive mental health history during OB intake.
  4. Apply best-practice strategies for monitoring and supporting patients with mild to moderate mood symptoms who do not meet full diagnostic criteria.
