Neurofibromatosis Symposium

NF affects 1 in every 2,000 births, and more than 4 million individuals worldwide. This provider driven symposium is directed at any medical provider providing care to these patients in the primary care or specialty clinics, for both pediatric and adult patients. Updates on diagnostic criteria, medical management and treatments for this group of patients will be provided.

1. Describe the natural history, clinical features, surveillance, and complications associated with Neurofibromatosis type 1 and Schwannomatosis Predisposition syndromes
2. Summarize the updated diagnostic criteria for Neurofibromatosis Type 1 and Schwannomatosis Predisposition Syndromes
3. Describe the management of Neurofibromatosis type 1 and Schwannomatosis Predisposition syndromes
4. Discuss the pathogenesis, clinical features and diagnosis of NF1
5. Review the presentation and current state of care for NF1-associated tumors
6. Describe the background and history of MEK inhibitor therapy for NF1-associated tumors
7. Review basic features of NF with a focus on cutaneous (skin) and subcutaneous lesions
8. Discuss various surgical treatment options and their indications and application
9. Recognize when surgical biopsy or excision should be pursued
10. Identify the main neuropsychological sequalae associated with NF1
11. Identify the main areas assessed in a neuropsychological evaluation.
12. Determine factors that indicate when a referral for neuropsychological evaluation is warranted
