Objectives

Upon completion of this activity the health care team should be able to: 


  1. Describe the natural history, clinical features, surveillance, and complications associated with Neurofibromatosis type 1 and Schwannomatosis Predisposition syndromes
  2. Summarize the updated diagnostic criteria for Neurofibromatosis Type 1 and Schwannomatosis Predisposition Syndromes
  3. Describe the management of Neurofibromatosis type 1 and Schwannomatosis Predisposition syndromes
  4. Discuss the pathogenesis, clinical features and diagnosis of NF1
  5. Review the presentation and current state of care for NF1-associated tumors
  6. Describe the background and history of MEK inhibitor therapy for NF1-associated tumors
  7. Review basic features of NF with a focus on cutaneous (skin) and subcutaneous lesions
  8. Discuss various surgical treatment options and their indications and application
  9. Recognize when surgical biopsy or excision should be pursued
  10. Identify the main neuropsychological sequalae associated with NF1
  11. Identify the main areas assessed in a neuropsychological evaluation.
  12. Determine factors that indicate when a referral for neuropsychological evaluation is warranted
