The 2021 Orthopedic Nursing Conference will focus on the evolution of lower extremity joint replacement surgery and patient recovery.

Objectives
  1. Examine why the history of total joint replacement is necessary to appreciate the importance and impact of these procedures on the function and quality of life on patients today
  2. Recognize the fundamental differences in total hip arthroplasty surgical approaches
  3. Explain utilization of advanced technologies in total hip arthroplasty surgery
  4. Discuss the latest perioperative pain management protocols and relationship to ambulatory total hip arthroplasty
  5. Examine the clinical presentation and review the radiographic evaluation of hip pain and dysplasia in the young adult population
  6. Review femoroacetabular impingement and the indications for periacetabular osteotomy and non operative treatment options
  7. Discuss rehabilitation and how it pertains to total joint replacement.
  8. Compare/contrast inpatient and outpatient aspects of physical therapy after total joint replacement
  9. Distinguish the differences in post op hip precautions
  10. Explain the role of regenerative medicine in the treatment of select orthopedic conditions
  11. Identify therapeutic options in the class of “regenerative medicine therapies”
  12. Describe the indications and limitations of commonly used regenerative medicine therapies
  13. Discuss factors that impact level of care and reimbursement for patients undergoing a total joint replacement
  14. Discuss care of orthopedic patient populations admitted to the Short Stay Unit
  15. Describe the goals to be met for early discharge after total joint replacement
  16. Describe an analgesic regimen that reflects current evidence for peri-operative pain management
  17. Apply best practices in patient education And principles of health literacy
  18. Discuss strategies to provide inclusive and accessible education for people with disabilities, as well as people

Accreditation
Nursing Credit: 7.0 contact hours will be granted by UI Hospitals and Clinics Department of Nursing (IBN Approved Provider #34). Participants must attend the entire program to receive full credit.
