9th Annual Iowa Association of Air Medical Services (AAMS) Safety Symposium 2021

The annual Iowa AAMS safety symposium is designed to deliver education content focusing on building a culture of safety for air and ground critical care transport in the state of Iowa and surrounding states. The seminar provides opportunities to discuss professional topics and multidisciplinary related patient and crew safety issues. This is to provide an opportunity for emergency medical services healthcare staff to also identify good catches, near misses, common errors to improve patient care and a culture of safety.


Iowa Board of Nursing, Provider #34 (5.50 hours), Non-Nurse Attendance (5.50 hours)

1. Explain that “humanness” can lead to safety risks.
2. List transport / hospital related safety risks.
3. Review primary Survey assessment and treatment priorities for the pediatric patient.
4. Discuss secondary survey assessment pearls for the pediatric patient.
5. Discuss pediatric trauma specific care priorities.
6. Identify steps to initiating a Peer Support Program.
7. Examine how one program initiated a Peer Support Program with frontline staff.
8. Identify multiple operational safety issues that they can affect during patient transport.
9. Describe affirmative decision making and communications required for safe transport during air medical transport.
10. Describe hazardous behaviors associated with air medical transport.
11. Identify safety related practices that are regulated by federal agencies and/or voluntary accreditation organizations such as Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS).

If you want to receive optional CE credit, pre-registration is required through CloudCME. Fee: $7.00 if claiming CE credit.

5.5 contact hours will be granted by UIHC Department of Nursing (IBN Approved Provider #34). Participants must attend the entire session to receive full credit. No partial credit will be awarded.
