Overview
The Pediatric Critical Care morbidity and mortality conference (PICU M&M) is a monthly venue providing an interdisciplinary group of clinicians with an opportunity to discuss mortalities and their clinico-pathologic correlation in the PICU to advance continuing education. It also provides an opportunity to discuss medical error and adverse events focusing on systems issues and their solutions in an effort to promote patient safety at our institution. Participants include physicians, surgeons, nursing staff, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, pathologists, social workers, palliative care clinicians, care coordinators, safety specialists, hospital administrators, and other relevant consulting subspecialists.

AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (1.50 hours), Non-Physician Attendance (1.50 hours)

Target Audience
Specialties - Anesthesia, Cardiovascular Disease, Emergency Medicine, Hematology and Oncology, Neurology, Pathology, Pediatrics, Supportive and Palliative Care

Objectives
  1. Identify critically ill pediatric patients with unusual pathophysiology/diagnoses for which it would be appropriate to seek expert consultation and search the current literature to determine the best approach to diagnosis and management
  2. Analyze contributing factors to patient adverse events using standard structural procedures.
  3. Identify systems-based interventions to prevent future error based on isolated contributing factors.
