Overview
The University of Iowa Department of Emergency Medicine is proud to offer a unique educational experience for Emergency Medicine providers. The “Iowa Fundamentals of Emergency Medicine” course is a continuing medical education experience unlike any other. Learners will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational experiences including lectures, case based small group discussions, procedure labs, and simulation experiences. All of these sessions are taught or facilitated by faculty members in the University of Iowa Department of Emergency Medicine, many with additional training in areas including education, ultrasound, orthopedics/sports medicine, critical care, palliative care, pediatrics and toxicology. Subject areas covered include core concepts of emergency care as well as cutting edge research and advances in the field. The number of learners is limited to facilitate direct
interaction with the faculty, and to encourage group discussions of the various topics covered. This also provider the faculty the opportunity to give individualized attention to the learners. This unique educational environment provides an excellent opportunity for learners and faculty to maximize the impact of the course.
