This program is designed for physicians with specialists in family medicine, internal medicine, and pediatrics; physician assistants, pharmacists; nurses; and individuals in training for these careers. Lectures and interactive breakout sessions will provide an update on the current, state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases that commonly arise in adults and/or children in the community and would routinely be encountered by primary care providers in the Midwest.

Target Audience
Specialties - Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics

Objectives
  1. Describe the methods for diagnosing latent TB and outline the current guideline recommended treatment regimens
  2. Identify common dermatologic manifestations of bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic infections.
  3. Understand comprehensive health needs assessments for refugee and immigrant patients and utilize community resources to enhance care for this patient population
  4. Describe the clinical presentation and symptoms of pharyngitis and otitis and outline current treatment guidelines and antibiotic stewardship for managing these patients
  5. Discuss recent updates in the diagnosis and management of HIV and sexually transmitted infections
  6. Identify non-infectious conditions that can present with similar symptoms to infectious diseases.
  7. Discuss diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of urinary tract infections
  8. Describe what primary care providers need to know about the diagnosis and management of Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C
  9. Describe what is known about the current avian influenza outbreak and the risk of spillover to humans
