Overview
This annual conference is designed to explore patient care innovations for neonates, infants, children, adolescents and women throughout their life span. Presentations on new evidence-based standards of nursing care as well as new technologies, procedures, and research illustrate the constantly evolving nature of nursing practice in a changing health care environment. Topics address both behavioral and clinical issues that are relevant to nurses and ancillary professionals in a variety of settings including acute care, ambulatory, and community-based practices.

Objectives
  1. Apply knowledge of acute distress and posttraumatic stress symptoms to support neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) parents
  2. Identify strategies for improving clinical documentation
  3. Identify how early identification of abnormal maternal vital signs impacts maternal wellbeing
  4. Discuss contemporary outcome of infants born with congenital heart defects
  5. Discuss methods used to detect congenital heart defects
  6. Review neonatal presentations of select congenital heart defects
  7. Define implicit bias
  8. Identify the impact of implicit bias in the workplace
  9. Identify strategies to mitigate implicit bias
  10. Learn about the latest products, public health prevention strategies, and how to promote prevention and cessation with patients.
  11. Describe the development of the Perinatal Care Clinic (PCC) model
  12. Discuss the goals and desired outcomes of PCC
  13. Analyze the effectiveness of PCC from a patient perspective and from a care provider perspective
  14. Discuss stabilization of common neonatal conditions requiring escalation to tertiary/quaternary NICU [term and preterm infants]
  15. Discuss the epidemiology of parent and caregiver vaccine hesitancy
  16. Discuss pelvic organ prolapse: causes and treatment options.
  17. Discuss and highlight several common concerning findings in a newborn infant
  18. Understand the epidemiology of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and its local prevalence
  19. Discuss the evolution of recommended infection control measures, particularly in the healthcare setting
  20. Review current public health and personal preventative measures to prevent SARS-CoV-2 infections

Accreditation

5.25 contact hours will be granted by UI Hospitals and Clinics Department of Nursing (IBN Approved Provider #34). Participants must attend the entire program to receive full credit.
