Medical Psychiatry Nursing Conference 2023

This conference will be held virtually through Zoom.

The purpose of this conference is to expand existing knowledge of nurses interested in medicine and psychiatry. Topics are appropriate for psychiatric nurses looking to expand their medical knowledge as well as medicine nurses that have an interest in learning more about psychiatry.

Iowa Board of Nursing, Provider #34 (6.50 hours), Non-Nurse Attendance (6.50 hours)

1. Discuss treatment options for alcohol use disorder, starting in the hospital and extending into the outpatient setting.
2. Examine the relationship between substance, the US carceral system, and the failed war on drugs. Reflect on how incarceration impacts access to treatment, recovery and opportunities at reentry.
3. Discuss the role of antipsychotics in the prevention and treatment of delirium.
4. Identify strategies for improving patient-centered care for Native Americans through understanding the impact of historical trauma and colonialism.
5. Identify potential risks and benefits of using lithium in psychiatric disorders and the effects on the kidney.
6. Discuss the impact of mindfulness in reducing burnout in the nursing practice and patient care.

Registration Fee:

$50; (Add $15 after 10/11/2023)

Refund: Full (minus $10 cancellation fee) if notification received on or before 10/18/2023.

6.5 contact hours will be granted by University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of Nursing (IBN Approved Providership #34).
