The purpose of this Refresher Course is to provide practicing family physicians, Pharmacist, and APPs a comprehensive overview of clinical issues relevant to contemporary family medicine. Lectures, case presentations, opportunities for questions and answers — all combine to create a fast-moving and useful educational experience. The course should prove especially useful for those preparing themselves for examination by the American Board of Family Medicine.

The conference will be livestreamed via Zoom.  Must attend live virtual course to receive CME.  Recordings will not be available.

Credits
AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (20.25 hours), AAPA Category 1 CME credit (20.25 hours), ACPE Credit (20.25 hours), ASWB General CE Credit (20.25 hours), Non-Physician Attendance (20.25 hours)

Specialties - Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Supportive and Palliative Care

Objectives
  1. Apply evidence based knowledge for chronic disease care in family medicine and to update current practice ideas.
  2. Apply evidence based knowledge acute care issues in family medicine.
  3. Improve the doctor-patient relationship with current practices

Registration
One Day: $175.00
Two Days: $300.00
Three Days: $450.00

Select days of attendance during the registration process.  Each day will have a unique Zoom ID that will be emailed to registered participants a few days before the course. 

Cancellation Policy
All but $25.00 of the fee is refundable if inability to attend is made known on or before April 1, 2024.  No refunds for no shows or cancellations made after April 1, 20225  

Accreditation

In support of improving patient care, the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

 

Physician: The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 20.25 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Family Physician: The AAFP has reviewed The 52nd Annual Family Medicine Refresher Course and deemed it acceptable for up to 20.25 Live AAFP Prescribed credit(s). Term of Approval is from 04/08/2025 to 04/10/2025. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Pharmacist:  The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine designates this knowledge-based activity for a maximum of 20.25 ACPE contact hours. Credit will be uploaded to the NABP CPE Monitor within 60 days after the activity completion. Physician Associate: The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine has been authorized by the American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA) to award AAPA Category 1 CME credit for activities planned in accordance with AAPA CME Criteria. This activity is designated for 20.25 AAPA Category 1 CME credits. PAs should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation

Social Worker: As a Jointly Accredited Organization, the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. Social workers completing this course receive 20.25 continuing education credit(s).

Other Health Care Providers: A certificate of participation will be available after successful completion of the course. (It is the responsibility of licensees to determine if this continuing education activity meets the requirements of their professional licensure board.)
