Join us online for this live virtual conference. 

Friday, December 11, 7:45 am - 4:30 pm

This virtual program is designed to present health care professionals with current knowledge about diagnosis, management, and prevention of a variety of injuries commonly incurred in sports participation and to emphasize uniquely influential factors that must be addressed in the provision of the highest quality of care to the competitive athlete. We will present specific performance improvement measures for the diagnosis and treatment of detectable problems that exist in athletes. In addition to lectures, interactive discussions will be offered to enhance the participant’s understanding of the topics presented.

AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (7.75 hours), Athletic Trainer (7.00 hours), Non-Physician Attendance (7.75 hours)

Target Audience
Specialties - Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Orthopedics and Rehabilitation, Pediatrics

Objectives
  1. Identify new and important directions in return to play and preventive care decisions for sports participants
  2. Describe best practices providing care for lower leg pain, acute lateral knee pain, shoulder weakness, respiratory distress, hip/groin pain, patellar dislocations, and acute posterior knee pain
  3. Discuss differing approaches to treatment and management of chronic exertional compartment syndrome, meniscus injuries, suprascapular nerve palsy, respiratory distress from asthma and ILI, hip and groin pain, and patellar dislocations
  4. Develop approaches to sports medicine practice that will add to successful professional development through cross-discipline experiences

Registration

Registration Fee:  $100

No charge for UI Department of Orthopedics.  (Must be affiliated with UI Department of Orthopedics with HawkID.) Registrants who do not meet the requirements for a complimentary registration will not receive Zoom instructions.  

Registration closes on December 9, 2020.

Cancellation Policy: 

There is a cancellation fee of $25.  No refunds for no shows or cancellations made after December 1, 2020.  


Accreditation

The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Physician:  The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 7.0 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.   

Family Physician:  The AAFP has reviewed 36th Annual University of Iowa Sports Medicine Symposium and deemed it acceptable for up to 7.00 Online Only, Live AAFP Prescribed credit. Term of Approval is from 12/11/2020 to 12/11/2020. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Athletic Trainer:  University of Iowa (BOC AP# P648) is approved by the Board of Certification, Inc. to provide continuing education to Athletic Trainers. This program is eligible for a maximum of 7 EBP Category hours/CEUs. ATs should claim only those hours actually spent in the educational program.

Nurse: As of March 18, 2020, Iowa nurses may use participation in ACCME-accredited education toward their CE requirement for licensure. A certificate of participation will be available after successful completion of the course. Please review the Iowa Board of Nursing's website for more information.   

Physician Assistant/Physical Therapist/Other Provider:  All participants may receive a certificate of participation for this conference upon completion of the online evaluation.   It is the responsibility of each attendee to determine if the continuing education programs they attend meet the requirements of their professional licensure board.
