Overview
The Annual Iowa AAMS Safety Symposium is designed to deliver education content focusing 
on building a culture of safety for air and ground critical care transport in the state of Iowa 
and surrounding states. The seminar provides opportunities to discuss professional topics and multidisciplinary related patient and crew safety issues. This is to provide an opportunity for emergency medical services healthcare staff to also identify good catches, near misses, 
common errors in order to improve patient care and a culture of safety.

Credits
Iowa Board of Nursing, Provider #34 (4.00 hours), Non-Nurse Attendance (4.00 hours)

Objectives
  1. Identify the positive and negative effects of stress.
  2. Define the survival stressors.
  3. Name natural reactions to stressors.
  4. Identify how to prepare yourself for survival stress.
  5. Recognize human performance factors.
  6. Incorporate AMRM (Air Medical Resource Management) principles into crew communication.
  7. Discuss factors that affect decision making.
  8. Apply the Just Culture principles to sentinel events.
  9. Apply the ‘accident’ and ‘crash’ principles to patient safety.
  10. Define ECMO/ECLS (extracorporeal life support).
  11. Review the science that supports ECLS.
  12. Provide a case study that illustrates the benefits of an ECLS program.
  13. List the characteristics of a culture of accountability.
  14. Recall the correlation between workplace culture and safety.
  15. Describe the benefits of an accountable culture.

Accreditation

Nursing CE Credits:
4 contact hours will be granted by UIHC Department of Nursing (IBN Approved Provider
#34). Participants must attend the entire session to receive full credit. No partial credit will be awarded.
