Overview

This program is designed to enhance clinical practice by increasing knowledge in providing culturally sensitive care for patients with various religious and cultural beliefs, dealing with patient bias towards providers, care for undocumented immigrants, providing  equitable care for persons with disabilities and caring for LGBTQ* patients.


Credits
AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (6.50 hours), Non-Physician Attendance (6.50 hours)

Objectives
  1. Identify ways in which a provider can care for patients in a respectful manner despite differing religious and cultural viewpoints
  2. Discuss how health and illness are viewed in different religions and cultures and how these viewpoints may influence care of a patient
  3. Recognize that patient biases exist toward providers and demonstrate how to manage such biases
  4. Describe ways of providing culturally inclusive care for undocumented immigrants
  5. Review unique health care needs of the LGBTQ patient
  6. Describe ways of providing equitable care for persons with disabilities

Physician:  $195
All other attendees:  $85
Students:  $35

Fees include registration, instruction, educational materials, CME and CE recording, continental breakfast, refreshment breaks, and lunch.

Physician: The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Family Physician: This Live activity, Culturally Responsive Health Care in Iowa 2019, with a beginning date of 05/31/2019, has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 6.50 Prescribed credit(s) by the American Academy of Family Physicians. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. 

Nurse:
 6.5 contact hours will be granted by University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of Nursing (IBN Approved Provider #34).  Participants must attend the entire program to receive full credit. 

Pharmacist:
 CEI is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. Following completion of the online activity exam and evaluation (accessible at www.CEImpact.com via a CPE Access Code given at the end of each activity), participants will be able to access their CPE Statement of Credit on CPE Monitor, www.MyCPEMonitor.net. No partial credit given. The ACPE Universal Activity Number (UAN) for this knowledge-based CPE activity is # 0107-9999-19-040-L04-P.
Pharmacists will receive 6.5 contact hours or .65 CEUs.  

Dentist: This program has been approved for 4.0 hours of re-licensure credit/lecture course.  CEU verification will be provided by email following the program.

Other Attendee: All participants will receive a certificate of completion for this conference.   It is the responsibility of each attendee to determine if the continuing education programs they attend meet the requirements of their professional licensure board.
