Overview

Racial disparities in maternal morbidity and mortality are known nationally but little discussion has taken place. at the local level.  This activity is designed to raise awareness and inform professionals about the disparities in Iowa when considering mortality and morbidity that Black women and birthing people face in pregnancy and the postpartum period.

The date of this conference has been changed from April 17, 2020 to August 17, 2020 and will be a live online conference. 

All associated CME  and CE credits are provided at no charge courtesy of a grant funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).

Target Audience
Specialties - Family Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology

Objectives
  1. Identify how reproductive justice can be used as a framework for clinical practice, research, outreach and community engagement
  2. Identify services to better serve black women in their community
  3. Discuss the data regarding maternal morbidity and mortality and the disparities present in these data

Registration

This educational conference and associated CME  and CE credits are provided at no charge courtesy of a grant funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).   


Accreditation

The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Physician: The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 5.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nurse: As of March 18, 2020, Iowa nurses may use participation in ACCME-accredited education toward their CE requirement for licensure without individual review. A certificate of participation will be available after successful completion of the course. Please review the Iowa Board of Nursing's website for more information.

Other Provider:  All participants may receive a certificate of participation for this conference upon completion of the online evaluation.   It is the responsibility of each attendee to determine if the continuing education programs they attend meet the requirements of their professional licensure board.
