Overview
This fast-paced and interactive conference will discuss a variety of contemporary pediatric topics presented by national and international recognized dental and medical leaders in pediatrics. The course is targeted to all dental and medical providers who treat children, and it is designed to increase the comfort level and expertise of the entire dental team when it comes to treating today’s pediatric patient, from infancy through adolescence, including those individuals with special health care needs. The course has been designed to be stimulating and informative welcoming audience participation through a series of clinical cases and challenging the participant to think “outside of the box”. This course is sure to give participants valuable information to tackle some of the most challenging situations encountered in today’s pediatric patients.

Objectives
  1. Define anaphylaxis. Describe the treatment of anaphylaxis
  2. Identify common oral soft lesions that have a systemic or behavioral disease connection.
  3. Detect important tooth-related problems that are associated with systemic diseases.
  4. Recognize potential side effects of medications and topical agents.
  5. Discover key questions that help link general health problems with atypical oral findings.
  6. Recognize serious signs and symptoms that require medical consultation and referral.
  7. Develop a differential diagnosis to guide other healthcare providers when a systemic or behavioral health problem may be linked.
  8. Describe the clinical presentation of hereditary angioedema.
  9. Describe the clinical features of primary immunodeficiency diseases (inborn errors of immunity), including potential oral and dental anomalies.
  10. Identify common oral lesions as a consequence of anti-neoplastic/immunosuppressive therapy.
  11. Familiarize yourself with treatment options for these oral lesions.
  12. Outline various criteria on how to biopsy different types of lesions.
  13. Outline how to submit biopsy specimens including both hard and soft tissues.
  14. Outline basic techniques for oral biopsies.
  15. Recognize common artifacts of conventional radiographic modalities and how they affect the interpretation process.
  16. Identify normal anatomy and common variations in the jaws in pediatric patients.
  17. Recognize the radiographic features of the most common jaw lesions in the pediatric population.
  18. Select the appropriate therapeutic and palliative agents for the management of oral lesions.
  19. Understand the goals and indications when recommending specific treatment options.
  20. Explore practical tips for delivering topical medications.
