Basic Fetal Monitoring Workshop 2025

This workshop is designed to provide basic information for obstetrical nurses on the use of fetal monitoring in the care of patients.

Iowa Board of Nursing, Provider #34 (5.40 hours), Non-Nurse Attendance (5.40 hours)

1. Discuss external and internal methods of monitoring fetal heart rate and uterine activity.
2. Identify characteristics of fetal heart rate baseline and periodic and episodic changes using National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) terminology.
3. Identify fetal heart rate patterns requiring interventions.
4. Review fetal heart rate patterns and uterine activity and discuss appropriate interventions.
5. Discuss documentation and communication of electronic fetal monitoring.
6. Describe methods of antepartum testing for the evaluation of fetal well-being.

Workshop Fee:

• UI Health Care OB and Family Medicine Nurses: No Fee

• UI Health Care All Other Staff: $40

• Non-UI Health Care Staff: $120 (includes workshop materials, parking and nursing CE credit). A $20 non-refundable late fee will be assessed for all registrations made after 8/13/2025.

Class Minimum: Minimum of 3 registered attendees required to hold the class. If minimum is not met, attendees may transfer registration to a future course.

Refund: Full (minus $20 cancellation fee) if notification received 3 days prior to the program. Substitutions are permitted at any time.

5.4 contact hours will be granted by University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing (IBN Approved Providership #34). Participants must attend the entire program to receive full credit.
