Cardiothoracic Surgery Advanced Practice Provider Boot Camp

Perioperative management of Cardiothoracic Surgery patients and interoperative assistance in Cardiothoracic Surgery cases.

AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (17.00 hours), AAPA Category 1 CME credit (17.00 hours), ANCC Contact Hours (17.00 hours), Non-Physician Attendance (17.00 hours)

1. Attain familiarity with the standard positioning and draping of cardiothoracic patients, as well as the instruments used in the operating room.
2. Gain knowledge of perfusions role in cardiac surgery including an overview of its essential function and equipment used to support circulation during a procedure.
3. Demonstrate the ability to perform ultrasound techniques for various procedures including but not limited to arterial line, femoral lines, thoracentesis and saphenous vein anatomy for harvest.
4. Develop familiarity with common anatomy and techniques to obtain conduit for bypass surgery using endoscopic harvest methods
5. Gain hands on pig heart dissection experience as an example of surgical cardiac procedures.
6. Attain knowledge of basic needle types and different suture materials in their application in cardiac and thoracic surgery.
7. Demonstrate the ability to perform various suturing techniques and methods.
8. Be familiar in assisting in Thoracic Surgery with the Da Vinci robot to include port access, docking and undocking arms.
9. Develop familiarity with placement of chest tube and how to manage chest tubes in the perioperative period.
