Site Specific Oncology - Hematology/Oncology

The purpose of this class is to provide information for nurses on hematologic conditions and malignancies. This includes etiology, diagnosis, treatment, symptom management, nursing care, and expected outcomes.

Non-Nurse Attendance (6.50 hours), University of Iowa Health Care Dept. of Nursing Services and Patient Care (6.50 hours)

1. Discuss the current nursing and medical management of patients with acute and chronic leukemia.
2. Review principles of blood and marrow transplant care.
3. Discuss current nursing and medical management of patients with sickle cell disease.
4. Discuss the current nursing and medical management of patients with multiple myeloma.
5. Describe the current nursing and medical management of patients with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and Hodgkin’s disease.
6. Identify risk factors and therapeutic interventions for patients with Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP) and Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP).
7. Discuss the current nursing and medical management of patients with hemophilia.

• UI Health Care Employees
  Nursing Staff working on oncology units = $0
  All Other Nurses = $25

• Non-UI Health Care Employees = $96
  (Fee includes workshop materials, breaks, parking and CE credits.) There is a $20 nonrefundable late fee if registering after the August 24, 2027 deadline.

Refunds: Full refund (less the $20 cancellation fee) if notified 3 days prior to the program. Substitutions are permitted at any time.

6.5 nursing contact hours will be offered by University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing Services and Patient Care Continuing Education Office and align with the appropriate subject matter found in Iowa Administrative Code 655 chapter 5.2(3).
