This conference has been cancelled and will be rescheduled to Fall 2020 - date to be determined.

The purpose of the Iowa Pediatric Mental Health Collaborative’s Critical Conversations trainings is to develop and strengthen Iowa’s primary care workforce capacity to address the mental health needs of children and youth within their medical home. This will be achieved by providing mental health focused trainings to advance Primary Care Providers' (PCPs) knowledge, skills and competence in identifying, assessing and treating mild to moderate presentations of the more common child and adolescent psychiatric disorders such as ADHD, Anxiety and Depression.

Session topics will include:
-ADHD
-Eating Disorders
-Collaborative and Proactive Solutions

Attendees will also learn about the new Iowa Pediatric Mental Health Collaborative.

Credits
AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (4.50 hours), Non-Physician Attendance (4.50 hours)

Objectives
  1. Identify best practices for assessing and treating ADHD in youth.
  2. Identify what primitive reflexes are and potential causes of retention.
  3. Recognize signs of primitive reflex retention and examples of treatment intervention.
  4. Differentiate the diagnostic classifications of eating disorders.
  5. Explain the etiology of an eating disorder from a diathesis-stress model perspective.
  6. Describe a multidisciplinary team approach towards the treatment of clients diagnosed with an eating disorder.
  7. Identify treatment resources available addressing eating disorder treatment and recovery.
  8. Review the goals and objectives of the Pediatric Mental Health Collaborative.
  9. Discuss trainings to develop capacity of primary care providers to treat children with mild to moderate needs within their medical home.
  10. Describe consultation service between primary care providers and University of Iowa Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists.
  11. Recommend connection with Regional Pediatric Mental Health Teams for care coordination and family to family support.
  12. Explain the core philosophy of Collaborative and Proactive Solutions.
  13. Identify resources for learning more about CPS and the research base that supports it.
  14. Describe the application of CPS through case examples.
  15. Identify the psychosocial Standards of Medical Care in youth with type 1 diabetes.
  16. Recognize psychosocial barriers that impact diabetes management in children and adolescents.
  17. Explain the role of psychology in the multidisciplinary treatment and management of type 1 diabetes.
