Overview
There is no documented standardized management of pregnant women with substance use disorder in the state of Iowa. Additionally, this is a significantly under-served population as they are often late to prenatal care and are subject to healthcare bias. With increased knowledge providers who work with pregnant women, women with addiction, and neonates with neonatal abstinence syndrome can expand their knowledge base and provide evidence-based care. This conference will outline best practice for providing care to pregnant women with a variety of substance use disorders.

Objectives
  1. Identify pre-disposing factors for substance use during pregnancy
  2. Discuss evidence-based screening for substance use disorders and evidence based treatment for opioid use disorder during pregnancy
  3. Identify statewide resources for pregnant women with substance use disorders.
  4. Identify best practice recommendations for providing care for pregnant women with substance use
  5. Describe current perinatal substance use trends in Iowa and across the nation
  6. Discuss treatment options that assist with management of substance use in pregnancy

Registration
This educational conference and associated CME  and CE credits are provided at no charge courtesy of a grant funded by the Iowa Department of Public Health.  

Accreditation

The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Physician:  The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.0 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.   

Nurse: Effective March 18, 2020, Iowa nurses may use participation in ACCME-accredited education toward their CE requirement for licensure. A certificate of participation will be available after successful completion of the course. (Nurses from other states should confirm with their licensing boards that this activity meets their state's licensing requirements.)

Other Provider:  All participants may receive a certificate of participation for this activity.   It is the responsibility of each attendee to determine if the continuing education programs they attend meet the requirements of their professional licensure board.
